For a standard 3m wide x 6m long single car garage you can design it so you will not require any council approval at all, the main hurdle here is that it must be 15m from the front boundary and less than 3m tall overall. Talk to our team now to discuss if this is possible on your block. For everything else you will need approval from ACTpla or the local NSW regional council. However, First Sheds are experts at designing single garages to be exempt from DA so all you require is relatively straightforward building approval. This saves 4-6 months of time and thousands of dollars.

A Single Car Garage is typically 3m wide x 6m long with 2.2m access door. A typical carpark at woolies is about 2.5m wide and 5m long. Therefore with a 3m x 6m single garage you have a bit of extra space to park and move around. Another very popular design is 4.5m wide x 6m long, which give storage / bench space

Don’t be tricked by online retailers selling you a “single garage” for a few grand. A bunch of steel and cladding delivered to your verge isn’t a single car garage. You still need block plans drafted, approvals completed, earthworks and stormwater done, concrete slab down and then the material built. You may also need existing structures removed, a new concrete driveway, retaining walls built and plumbing and electrical works. All up we generally find a fully inclusive single car garage build costs between $15,000 - $35,000 depending on the full scope. If you don’t require a full project, then we are happy to just do part.

Its all about what type of approval is required and how long that approval takes. Typically the initial quote, design and acceptance takes 1-2 weeks. A DA exempt Building approval which is the most common type for a single garage takes around 6 weeks. The material supply then takes 4-6 weeks, during this time we can get started on the earthworks and concreting. After the material arrives we like to get to our builds in about 2 weeks. So all up its in the region of 14-16 weeks for a complete project INCLUDING approvals.

We include everything! A base build includes the shed material or kit, earthworks prep for the slab, concrete slab, shed construction & drafting and approval fees. If your project requires we can include additional concreting, electrical and plumbing or if you only need the kit and the erect we can just do that too.
